Family friendly events across the Triad: Sep 8–26

Family friendly events fill the Triad calendar from Tuesday, Sep 8 through Saturday, Sep 26. Free outdoor festivals, a weekly kids-and-pets 5K, family baseball, a train depot open house, and sensory friendly crafts give families options across all three anchor cities and the surrounding towns.

Winston-Salem: park festival and a free 5K

The International Village Food and Music Fest takes over Winston Square Park Saturday, Sep 12. The event brings cultural food and music to downtown Winston-Salem.

Happy Hill parkrun runs every Saturday at 8 AM at 1230 Alder Street. The weekly 5K is free, and walkers, joggers, and runners of all paces and ages are welcome. Children and pets can join.

High Point: family baseball and family bingo

The High Point Rockers host the Charleston Dirty Birds at Truist Point Tuesday, Sep 8 and Thursday, Sep 10. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, with gates opening at 5:45 PM.

Bingo Night at Freddy's runs the fourth Tuesday of every month from 5 PM to 8 PM at 4106 Brian Jordan Place. Bingo plays every 30 minutes, and the whole family is welcome.

Rural Hall and the symphony: trains and acrobats

The Rural Hall Historic Train Depot holds its September open house Saturday, Sep 19 at 8170 Depot Street. The NCDOT BeRailSafe team brings train information and activities for kids. Admission is free.

The Winston-Salem Symphony presents Cirque de la Symphonie Saturday, Nov 28 and Sunday, Nov 29. Acrobats, jugglers, and contortionists join the orchestra for a holiday family show.

High Point historical park: fall crafts

Two Saturday craft programs at the High Point Historical Park keep the fall spirit going. Corn Husk Doll Making runs Saturday, Sep 26 and teaches how Native Americans and early Quaker settlers made toys from natural materials. Also Saturday, Sep 26, the Little Red Schoolhouse holds Let's Craft: Build Your Own Scarecrow, a sensory friendly session with dim lights and a calm room.
